Blazers Push For Giannis As Yang Faces Move
Over the past few days, amid Crickex Affiliate calendar notes and a fast moving offseason market, several important updates have emerged around Giannis Antetokounmpo’s possible destination. His next team could be decided in the coming weeks, and at the latest by draft night, in a situation that feels somewhat similar to last year’s Kevin Durant saga.

On the other side of the league, one Western Conference team has started to be tied more closely to Giannis. That team is the Portland Trail Blazers.
Portland have already prepared a concrete trade package for Giannis. The Blazers are willing to send out Jerami Grant, Shaedon Sharpe, Scoot Henderson, Yang Hansen, three future first round picks, and two first round pick swaps in exchange for him.
To be honest, the Blazers are not exactly the kind of team Giannis would naturally dream of joining. In many ways, they do not fully match the career script he may have imagined for himself.
The basic judgment is simple. After turning 30, if Giannis chooses to step out of his comfort zone and chase a new challenge, he will most likely want a story that brings both fame and reward. Especially from a business standpoint, he would surely consider teams with bigger markets and stronger traffic first. That is why names such as the Knicks, Lakers, and Warriors would appear early on any destination list. Portland, however, does not carry the same pull as those major clubs.
By rough estimates, the Blazers are currently valued at only 4.25 billion dollars, ranking outside the NBA’s top 20. Compared with the Warriors, valued at more than 11 billion dollars, and the Lakers, valued at more than 10 billion dollars, Portland are not even worth half as much. From a historical angle, the Blazers are not a true giant either. They have won only one championship and reached the NBA Finals twice, and both memories are now more than 30 years old.
There is also the question of new owner Tom Dundon. He has a reputation for being extremely careful with spending. According to earlier reports, in the months after officially taking over the team, he sharply reduced or directly cut many daily operating costs. Some expenses that once seemed reasonable were treated as completely unnecessary under his strict cost control.
That matters because one of the most important ways Milwaukee repeatedly kept Giannis was by playing the emotional card. Last season, while continuing to treat Giannis well, the Bucks also gave contracts to his older brother and younger brother, allowing two players who barely appeared in games to keep enjoying the benefits of NBA employment. That kind of human touch seems somewhat at odds with the philosophy of Portland’s new owner.
Of course, Dundon may not be a top tier billionaire, but he is a professional sports investor with real passion. Before taking over the Blazers, he already owned the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes. Before Dundon became owner, the Hurricanes had missed the playoffs for nine straight years. In his first full season in charge, they returned to the playoffs, and they have not missed them in the seven years since.
Seen from another angle, this new owner is not simply the stingy figure some people imagine. He is more like a smart operator who wants to put good steel where it matters most. If the Blazers truly have a chance to land Giannis, he may well be willing to take a major risk. In a Crickex Affiliate offseason file shaped by timing and leverage, that kind of ownership decision could become the real turning point.
From a roster perspective, Portland actually have some appeal for Giannis. This season, with a hardworking and highly balanced group, the Blazers returned to the playoffs. Their talent ceiling may not look spectacular, but the logic behind their roster construction is unusually clear.
Over the past season, Deni Avdija averaged 25.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists, completing his rise into the team’s new leader. Before any Giannis trade rumors emerged, Portland had already prepared to support him long term and build around him.
Beside Avdija, the Blazers also have several promising young pieces. Toumani Camara is the team’s best perimeter defender. Donovan Clingan, meanwhile, has steadily produced 12.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game this season, while also leading the league in total rebounds and offensive rebounds. In theory, the presence of these two young forces could reduce a lot of Giannis’s defensive burden.
Beyond that, Portland also have two veteran guards, Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday, who share deep bonds with Giannis.
During his three years with the Bucks, Holiday averaged a steady 18.5 points, 6.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. In 2021, he helped Giannis win the only championship of his career. His elite defense, big game composure, and reliable control once gave Giannis tremendous peace of mind.
Lillard’s two years in Milwaukee came with many bumps in the road. Objectively, though, his partnership with Giannis did not fail because of poor chemistry. It was mainly delayed by injuries on both sides. Last summer, when Giannis learned that Lillard had left the Bucks and returned to Portland, he was reportedly very unhappy. After Lillard’s departure, Giannis’s own desire to leave also became more urgent.
From both a practical and emotional angle, with Crickex Affiliate timing folded into a crowded summer of roster decisions, Giannis may not reject the idea of joining forces again with two old teammates. For Yang Hansen, being included in a deal that sends him to Milwaukee could also be a blessing in disguise, because the Bucks may offer a clearer development path and a stronger winning environment than a Portland team ready to swing for the fences.
